I've had a look on the group list for East & West Midlands and see that there isn't a group for the Leicester area.

I would be very interested in setting one up but would like to know who is within that catchment area, and more importantly if you'd be interested in joining such a group.

I live in Kettering, which is not far away. I'm also going to the lunch at Leicester, so could chat about it then!

I was looking at the list recently, does anyone know the difference between an NRAS group and a non-NRAS one?

My understanding is that a NRAS group is one that is set up with the help & support of NRAS, giving access to contacts, providing guest speakers and possibly helping with funding...

A non-NRAS group is one that has been set up independently, who raise their own funds, organise their own events and while NRAS can signpost people there, do not have any say in the running or the content of the group...

Ann (Monty) and I meet up every so often. I live in South Notts, so if you met within a reasonable distance from me, I could maybe join you.

Hi,

I also live in Hinckley and sometimes meet up with Ann (Monty) so I would be interested in joining a local group. I presume you go to Hinckley hospital which I also attend but have never been offered an evening appointment even when I was at work. In fact I never get offered anything much I really do not rate them at all.

Let me know if you do set up a group as I would like to come to the meetings.

I'm in Hinckley too ThumpUp small World!

I did go to Hinckley hospital... but have now changed to Coventry & Warwickshire. I was offered a last minute evening appointment at Hinckley with Dr Chaudhuri who apparently comes over to Hinckley every so often to do evening appointments. He asked if I was happy to continue seeing him at his main hospital so thats why I changed.

Will definitely be looking at setting up a local group. Was due to meet with Ann just before she went into hospital (I think along with you Jayne) but my dad was taken ill so we never got to meet.

I did an information day at Castle Mead Medical Centre a couple of weeks back which went well. Not hugely busy but it got NRAS' name out there so that was good. I've been asked to do an information day at Brittania shopping centre in May which will hopefully get a lot more interest.

If I get some more info etc, maybe we can all have a chat about it at the get together?

Smile HELLO my name is Sharon, I have just become a member and not sure what I am doing yet! I live in West Bromwich West Midlands and would love to join a group but don't know of one. I am 49 years old, married, two daughters and two grand kids. I have had RA for about eight years, can't believe it took me this long to join!!

Hi Sharon!

Welcome to NRAS ThumpUp

I'm looking at setting up a group for Leicestershire area as there currently isn't one but if you check here you'll see all the groups. There are 3 based in Birmingham and about 25mins from you

Hi,
Hope there are enough of us for a group in Leicestershire. I actually live in Barwell but it is very near Hinckley. I attend Hinckley hospital and see Dr Hassan but do not get to see him often enough. My chemist which is ASDA help me a lot more. They give me advice and help and tell me what to ask the doctor to do for me. I don't think my practice is very well informed at all.. Hope we can meet up sometime.

Regards

Hi Sharon,

Welcome to NRAS and the forum. BigGrin

As Helly has said there are a number of groups in the West Midlands.

We have the Birmingham NRAS Group, but it might be a bit far for you to travel, you can find more info over at www.brasg.org.uk, There is also the new Solihull group but again this might be a little too far away for you.

There are two non NRAS groups closer to you

City Hospital Support Group (non NRAS group)
For more information please contact drowland.home@virgin.net

Dudley Group (non NRAS group)
Barbara runs this group which meet on the first Monday of every month at Russell Hall hospital and she can be contacted on bfgra@fsmailnet.

I know some of the members of the City group as they're also members of the Birmingham ARMA group.

If I can be of any help please drop me a note here on the forum.

With regard to the Leicester group (so I'm not totally hijacking the threadRazz ), There's usually more members in an area than those that use the forum, a call to Paul or Clare at NRAS HQ might be worthwhile, as they might be able to mail those in the area to see if there's enough folks or demand to start a group.

Good luck with setting one up ThumpUp

Best wishes

Jo.
